Studied Philosophy at the Universities of Marburg, Bonn and Oxford. - PhD in Philosophy at the University of Bonn. - Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Sydney (1990-1991). - Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Reader in Philosophy at the Australian National University (1992-2009). - Univ.-Prof. (Full Professor), Chair in History of Philosophy, Department of Philosophy, University of Graz, Austria (since 2009), Univ.-Prof. i. R. at the University of Graz since October 2019.

Early modern epistemology, metaphysics and philosophy of mind (German, British, and French sources). Current project: theories of self-consciousness and personal identity in early modern British and Continental philosophy. Research monograph under contract with OUP, working title: The Enlightened Subject. Sameness and Self from Condillac to Thomas Brown.
